Dr. Emilio Ramos, a member of the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries team for Guatemala’s Central District, offered his services to the country's Ministry of Health to help treat Guatemala migrants who have been deported. He was assigned to serve at the Ramiro de León Carpio shelter, a migrant shelter that houses about 176 people.

When Ramos first arrived, he couldn’t find space for a clinic to treat patients, so he had to attend to them outdoors.

Ramos contacted the North Central Area NCM Coordinator Dámaris Kellogg to request the use of NCM’s mobile clinic that is used in emergencies. With the help of a Work & Witness team, the mobile clinic was transferred to the hostel. They also sent a box with New Testaments Bibles, masks, and gloves.

"With the mobile clinic, now patients can be treated with dignity and privacy," Kellogg said.

Part of the Work & Witness team helped make the delivery, taking into account all precautions and safety protocols. They shared some words of encouragement and prayed for the patients and their families.

This week, the team will bring clothes since the migrants can only bring the clothes they are wearing. The country's government has provided them with T-shirts, pants, and sandals.

“We thank God for the opportunity to serve our compatriots,” Kellogg said.  “We had the opportunity to discuss important issues such as safe return and immigration with the staff. God is opening doors to serve and minister to these people who have been through a very difficult process.”
