A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit the city of Osaka, Japan, 18 June, killing four people and injuring hundreds more. 

More than 100,000 homes were left without gas and water while around 170,000 were left without power. In addition, people were trapped in elevators, traffic came to a halt for the majority of the day, and several roads were damaged when water pipes broke.

Airports in the area were closed for several hours and train lines were interrupted. Many commuters chose to stay in nearby shelters for the night while others walked home instead of waiting for public transportation to resume.

Tremors from the earthquake also affected the Japanese areas of Kyoto, Nara, Hyogo, and Shiga.

Local officials warn that Japan could experience another high magnitude earthquake in the coming days.

Prayer is requested for the victims, their families, and for the Church of the Nazarene in Japan as churches respond to the needs of their country.
