An 18-year-old boy who was an active member at Westside Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas, died Monday in a motorcycle accident. 

Bryan Allen Jessip died after his motorcycle collided with a minivan just before 4:45 p.m. at Waverly Road and 115th Street in nearby De Soto. 

Jessip, who wore a helmet, drove north on Waverly Road and the minivan traveled east on 115th Street when the two collided, Johnson County, Kansas, Sheriff deputies said.

The accident is still under investigation; however, Jessip was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman and two  children in the minivan were taken to an area hospital, treated and released, deputies said.

More than 300 classmates, teachers, and friends attended a candlelight vigil Tuesday for Jessip at De Soto High School, where he had just completed his junior year. 

Jessip played soccer and ran cross country and had an interest in mechanics. He also was active in the youth group at Westside. 

He is survived by his parents, Kelly and Wayne Jessip, De Soto; a sister, Leslie Jessip, of the home; maternal grandparents Don and Bonnie Keenan of Cherryvale, Kansas; paternal grandparents Roger and Patricia Jessip of Linn Valley, Kansas; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m., Friday June 17, at Westside Church of the Nazarene, 1700 W. Santa Fe St., Olathe. Burial will be in De Soto Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 Blackbob Rd., Olathe. 

A memorial fund was established in Jessip's name at the First Community Bank in De Soto to help the family with funeral and burial costs. Donations may be made at the bank, 33485 Lexington Ave., or mailed to P.O. Box 329, De Soto, KS 66018.

Prayer is requested for the Jessip family and Westside church.
