Judy D. Burnell, 70, of Seaford, Delaware, passed away 30 June 2022. She has pastored Seaford Church of the Nazarene since 2017.

Judy was born on 12 November 1951 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to William H. and Dorothy G. Edwards.

In 1969, Judy graduated from Falls Overfield High School in Mill City, Pennsylvania. She attended Nazarene Bible College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies. She completed her Master of Divinity at Nazarene Theological Seminary in 2005 and her doctorate at Kansas City Theological Seminary in 2014.

Judy loved studying and teaching the Bible and held positions at the Colorado Springs First Church of the Nazarene (1996-2001), Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene (2001-2002), and Bel Air Church of the Nazarene in Maryaland (2002-2008). She has led the Seaford Church of the Nazarene since 2017.

Her ministry also had a global influence; she went on mission trips to Honduras and Mozambique and served as the Eurasia regional administrator in Busingen, Germany, from 2008 to 2013. Judy said her most personally meaningful trip was an archeological dig in Israel.

Judy was most proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved to take walks on the beach and collect seashells, especially at Fenwick Island, Delaware. Judy will be remembered for her acts of kindness to family as well as strangers and her love of babies. She was also known for her cream of crab chowder and chocolate Easter eggs.

Judy is survived by her husband, Barry Burnell; mother, Dorothy Edwards; sister, Cindy May; daughters, Jennifer McCauley, Angela O’Connell, and Ashley Burnell; son, Matthew Burnell, four grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Judy was predeceased by her daughter, Cherie Ann Tallada; her father, William Edwards; her sister, Shirley Sheruda; and her brother, William “Billy” Edwards.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cranston Funeral Home in Seaford, Delaware. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Caption
