Jordan COVID Response

As the Church of the Nazarene finds ways to respond during the COVID-19 pandemic, the church in Jordan is teaming up with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries to distribute food “packages of hope” to those who are struggling due to the ripple effect of the pandemic.

The Jordan District, on the Eurasia Region, has seven churches so far that will help distribute close to 700 packages of food to families who are adversely affected by job loss or school closings.

“I think everyone is affected by the lockdown; of course school students but [also] refugees and many families who work on a daily basis because they do not have a monthly salary,” said Khalil, the field strategy coordinator.

According to Khalil, the packages will contain things like rice, oil sugar, tea, two frozen chickens, a carton of eggs, flour, and some canned foods.

The families who receive these packages have been identified by church members and others in the community. Some of the children from these families come to their respective church programs, helping those churches take part in the NCM project to further build that relationship with the family.

This same project will take place for roughly 60 families in Egypt as well, according to Khalil.

As the churches try to help families with urgent needs, they are also looking for ways to connect as a church amid lockdowns and quarantines. Khalil says the church’s refugee ministry has been affected the most.
