Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary opened the school’s newest Master of Ministry off-site center in Mandalay, Myanmar, starting with two back-to-back courses 1-12 July. 

This master’s program is part of APNTS’s “Masters on Wheels” initiative — a 45-unit, non-residential degree that equips men and women in their local contexts. 

With the changing trends in theological education, APNTS’ off-site program allows students to be equipped without moving to APNTS’ main campus in the Philippines. APNTS has already graduated students in this program from Papua New Guinea and two other secure areas.

The site in Myanmar was a yearlong initiative planned and organized alongside Myanmar National Coordinator Bill Kwon and Field Strategy Coordinator David Philips. The center was made possible after the Asia-Pacific Region donated $20,000 to start the program.

Twenty students joined the classes, and the majority come from the Church of the Nazarene, though some came from Baptist, Assemblies of God, and other evangelical churches. 

The average age of the class was 34, though some students were as young as 20 years old. Most of them come from another faith background, including two who became Christians only six months ago through another student’s preaching.
