Local church leaders throughout Paraguay recently completed a six-month training program called Disciples in Ministry.

The national ministry coordinators were each in charge of the training in their respective areas — Samuel Ferreira was in charge of Nazarene Youth International, Pastor Pablo Tello was in charge of Nazarene Missions International, and Viviana Tello was in charge of Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries.

“We are immensely grateful for this training,” Pablo and Viviana said. “Every Sunday, from the month of April through October, leaders from different churches have attended faithfully to receive instruction, resources, and tools for ministry in NYI, NMI, and SDMI.”

The Disciples in Ministry program has been a very impactful experience for the Church of the Nazarene in Paraguay, allowing the district to reconnect with local leaders.

“All of this has strengthened the unity and fellowship between the churches on the district,” Pablo and Viviana said. “We have enjoyed times of worship and prayer. It has been a wonderful time that has doubtlessly marked the lives of many.”

A graduation service was held 7 October in Fernando de la Mora, Paraguay, for those who completed the course, which was offered by the Center of Leadership Development on the Central District.

Jorge Julca, Disciples in Ministry and Theological Education regional coordinator, spoke at the event. More than 20 certificates were given to leaders of different congregations from the Central District, and many more attended training workshops that were offered at the event.

“Throughout these months we have been able to testify to the work of God,” Pablo and Viviana said. “We have seen how God is raising up people who are available to love God’s work and want to invest their lives where God has called them.”

On 15 September, participants took a short-term mission trip to the community of Atyrá. They visited the Church of the Nazarene in Mbururú to show what they learned over the previous year through the program.

In the morning, the entire NMI team walked through the community to share the Gospel. Later in the afternoon they had a party on the church property for children called “Party with Jesus,” which was led by the SDMI and NYI. At the party there were songs, games, a Bible lesson, and a snack.

Following the children’s party, the group finished the day by hosting a worship service. Ferreira spoke at the service.

“Seeing people give their lives to God was the best part of the day,” Pablo and Viviana said. “About 40 people attended throughout the day. Many more received prayer and made a decision for Christ in their homes. It was a beautiful day; the participants returned tired and satisfied with the day’s ministry.”
