School of promise outreach

As the coronavirus made its way across Thailand, the School of Promise in Hang Dong wanted to do more than furlough students and wait for the pandemic to end. They reached out to student’s families to find out if they were struggling due to illness or the economic impact of the virus.

While most of the families had not yet been impacted, the school staff assembled care packages for those who were struggling. They then went even further by contacting community leaders in three villages that surround the school. They are now planning an even broader distribution of care packages.

Each care package consists of rice, noodles, eggs, vegetable oil, fish sauce, and other non-perishable food items. The items are the basic staples of the Thai diet, and the box cost roughly $20.

The School of Promise is a school started by Joel and Marvel Vander Kooi, missionaries with the Church of the Nazarene. School of Promise is a Christian school that ministers to Thai children and their families.

The Cameroon flag is a vertical tricolor of green, red and yellow, defaced with a five-pointed star in its center. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as "the star of unity." The yellow stands for the sun and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
