The Church of the Nazarene in Puerto Rico recently hosted a missions orientation camp for 22 participants between the ages of 17 and 65, representing eight churches on the two districts of the country.

The event was held from 10 to 12 January and was organized by leaders from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and the United States.

"The faith of the organizers and the participants was put to the test,” said Javier Otero, a global missions member East Puerto Rico. “Three days before the event, Puerto Rico was hit by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake, leaving thousands homeless."

Otero also said that the island was without electricity and water service. Even so, the event took place without any problems.

It was a time of learning through workshops and the Word of God. Participant Frances Medero said, "I could open my eyes to many possibilities and opportunities that God has for me."

Three senior pastors testified to the importance of the involvement of the pastoral body in missions. Fifteen people had an interview and orientation time for the development of existing missions opportunities.

“The Nazarene missions ethos influenced the programming of this event,” said Pastor Jorge Ortiz, another participant at the event. “They kept surprising me. As a pastor, I felt extremely honored to belong to this movement. Every Nazarene should live the experience of missionary orientation.”
