Indiana church supports local family after tragedy

Middletown, Indiana

(The Herald Bulletin, July 13) The family of U.S. airman Halex Hale is coping as best they can following the discovery of his body in a river near where he went missing 10 days ago, an informal family spokesman said Tuesday.

Philip Rogers, senior pastor of the Middletown Church of the Nazarene, said he’s both proud and impressed with the family and how the community has stepped up to support them.

“Since all this started, they have held up as well as they could under the circumstances, said Rogers, who has met the family numerous times since Staff Sgt. Hale disappeared from a party he was attending on July 2.

Although Rogers has known the Hale family for years, they are not members of his church. Nevertheless, the Church of the Nazarene has served as a focal point of support for the Hales.
