USA flood relief continues as water recedes

by | 28 Mar 2019

As the flooding in the United States Midwest begins to recede, local churches, districts, and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries representatives are conducting relief assessments. The states of Nebraska and Iowa so far received the greatest damage, though assessments will take place in other states as needed.

Volunteer disaster response teams will use the information gathered to plan relief and recovery trips in the weeks and months to come.

A Nazarene church and parsonage in Craig, Missouri, experienced flooding this past weekend, forcing the congregation to meet elsewhere and the pastor and his family to relocate to a hotel. The Kansas City District is spearheading a response to that community.

In Iowa, the district is gathering a list of teams that are prepared to serve across the Midwest when the greatest needs become apparent.

Fremont Church of the Nazarene in Nebraska has identified local families in need of assistance and continues to provide direct assistance, support, and encouragement.

The National Weather Service is predicting that flooding could be a challenge for weeks to come in the region, due to ice jams and snowmelt traveling downstream.
