Trinidad & Tobago District relaunches children's Bible quizzing

by | 30 Nov 2017

Earlier this year, the Trinidad and Tobago District relaunched Children’s Bible Quizzing. Immediately, eight churches and 49 quizzers formed their Bible study groups and prepared for competitions on 1 and 2 Samuel.

Just as district preparations were being made for the 2017-2018 quiz cycle, doors began to open that would propel quizzing even further. In August, retired school teacher Judy Lucas reached out to the district to lend her support.

Lucas spent five weeks in Trinidad sharing her Bible quizzing experience. Workshops were held on each of the Trinidad and Tobago District's four zones, with 20 coaches and 60 quizzers participating from both islands. At the workshops, coaches and quizzers were supplied with Nazarene Publishing House quizzing materials on the book of Matthew, tote bags, highlighters, and other items as Lucas shared methods for teaching Scripture and Bible memorization.

"The Trinidad and Tobago District is extremely appreciative of the support of Ms. Lucas to Children’s Bible Quizzing and the contributions of all those who support CBQ," said Alvilene Williams, district children's Bible quizzing director. "We look forward to connecting with other districts in the Caribbean English Field to further promote and develop Children’s Bible Quizzing on the region."

The first district meet for the Matthew cycle was held 11 November at Caribbean Nazarene College. It was the culmination of the four weekends of zonal workshops. Leslie Hart, global Children’s Bible Quizzing director, attended for five days.

"While there, we benefited from her wealth of experience in Bible quizzing; and she also served as the quizmaster for the very exciting tournament," Williams said. "It was a grand occasion as a total of 69 children participated from 11 churches. By the end of the evening the quizzers received their awards and tokens. The quizzers, ages 6-12, performed exceptionally well in the two-round competition with 20 questions per round."

Each quizzer received an award based on the percentage of questions answered correctly: All Star Awards (100%) – 8; Gold Awards (90-99%) – 13; Silver (80-89%) – 20; Bronze (70-79%) – 17; Merit – 11.

"More than anything else, we feel excited at knowing that more children in the ministries across our district are deeply engaging in the study of God’s Word," Williams said. "We know that this will have a long-lasting impact in their lives as they are able to apply God’s Word in life situations."
