Mexico medical brigade serves 500

The Nazarene Medical Brigade offered medical services to approximately 500 people in the Mexico East District 12-16 February. They reached out to the communities of Escárcega, Ulumal, and Tixmucuy in Campeche and to the Cuch Holoch and Cepeda communities in Yucatan. Some of the consultations required interpretation from Spanish to the local Mayan language.

“It was an excellent activity that shared the love of Jesus Christ through health services,” said Carlos Betanzos, the Mexico Nazarene Medical Brigade coordinator. “Some communities we visited have access to public health centers, but it came to our attention that in the places where there was no access to public health, the number of people who came for medical attention increased exponentially.

Along with general health check-ups and orthodontics, the district offered haircuts, clothing donations, craft workshops, and evangelized the community.

“Several people made the decision to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior,” Betanzos said.

District Superintendent Joaquin Ocaña volunteered alongside the brigade, and District Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Coordinator Aracely Sanchez mentioned the medical outreach was in conjunction with other district ministries.

“We continue extending the invitation to all of our Nazarene family to join with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, where the doors are open to serve using your vocation,” said Edi Montejo, Mexico NCM coordinator.
