The Kalimantan District in Indonesia held a strategic planning meeting in Palangkaraya from 17-19 June. This meeting was initiated and facilitated by the Sealands Field and led by Stephen Gualberto, field strategy coordinator.

The District Advisory Committee, which includes the district superintendent, District Advisory Board, pastors, and essential ministries' coordinators (NYI, NDI, NMI), identified the strengths, opportunities, goals, and actions the district would like to achieve both short term and long term. As part of the gathering, creative games were  held for participants to build and strengthen relationships.

Those in attendance also discussed the existing difficulties and the possible solutions to these challenges. They committed to bringing the Kalimantan District from a Phase 1 to Phase 2 district in the next two years. In order to achieve this, the Kalimantan District should meet a minimum critera of "10 organized churches, 500 full members, and 5 ordained ministers." In addition, at least "50 percent of the district administration expenses shall be generated by the district ministries fund income at the time of designation." (Manual, 200.2, p.119)

Dwi, the NYI district president and NCM coordinator for the Kalimantan District is grateful for the activity and the direction it has given those on the district.

“We are blessed,” Dwi said. “With this activity, now we know what the district should do to grow to Phase 2.”

Moreover, according to local pastor, Agnes, the congregations in the district are happy to welcome this new strategy.

“We will form a team and involve the leaders and the congregations who want to work together for discipleship and church development,” Agnes continued. “What is very interesting is that we can create a ministry plan for children and teenagers, too. This will be very fun for children because they must get clear guidance. Our souls and hearts are burning to carry out this ministry strategy as soon as possible.”
