NPH Interim Board of Directors presents 'Situational Analysis Report' to 92nd General Board

by | 21 Feb 2015

The Interim Board of Directors of Nazarene Publishing House (NPH) released a 53-page report to the 92nd General Board detailing its independent findings of NPH after nearly five months in governance of the Church of the Nazarene's 102-year-old publishing enterprise.

The "Situational Analysis Report" report was presented in executive session to the 51 General Board members and the Board of General Superintendents, with invited members from Global Ministry Center on Saturday, 21 February 2015.

The report, in response to the 14 October 2014 action of the Board of General Superintendents, regarding the work of the Interim NPH Board of Directors is posted in English and accessible by clicking here. Translations in other languages will be available soon.

Bob Brower, NPH Board chair, presented the report on behalf of Monte Chitwood, vice-chair; Keith A. Pardue, secretary; and David W. Graves, BGS chair and general superintendent in jurisdiction of NPH. Dr. Graves serves on the NPH Board as a non-voting member.

"The purpose of the report was to present, through the best information available to us, a record of actions and conditions that led NPH to where it is today; to respond to questions and concerns from the general superintendents, General Board members, pastors, and laity of local Nazarene churches; and to provide a foundation for NPH's future," Chairman Brower said.

Dr. Graves, on behalf of the BGS, expressed appreciation for the commitment of time and energy from the Interim NPH Board. "Bob Brower, Monte Chitwood and Keith Pardue have proven themselves churchmen in every sense of that word," Dr. Graves noted.

The three interim governing board members were elected and installed in October 2014, filling three of the vacancies created when the previous NPH Board resigned. They were put in place to govern the business affairs and all required legal corporate obligations of the publishing house for the benefit of the Church of the Nazarene.

Charles A. Davis, Jr., president of the General Board, also expressed gratitude for the comprehensive reporting on NPH. "The facts are what everyone has been seeking and we are grateful for the thorough work of the Interim NPH Board," Davis added.

In his closing comments, Brower stated:

"So out of our chaos, crisis, and struggle, what is it that God wants to do in and through the church and NPH, for His honor and glory? We know it must be different than what it has been. The church is changing. NPH is changing. Now, what is it that we must do together as God’s people through the church and NPH?"

The "Situational Analysis Report" now goes to the General Board and BGS for further consideration of the findings and recommendations.
