Indiana church celebrates 100th anniversary

Owen Township, Indiana

(The Tribune, 30 October) Small communities often thrive with the presence of a school, which serves as a backbone and brings people together.

It has been years since Kurtz had its own school, so the small Jackson County community in Owen Township has relied on another structure that can help a town thrive: a church.

As other churches in the area have shut their doors, Kurtz Church of the Nazarene has stood the test of time.

Earlier this month, the church celebrated its 100th anniversary.

It serves as the backbone and heart of the community.

Missouri church holds pie sale to benefit Uganda orphanage

Eldon, Missouri

(Lake Expo, 9 November) - Every fall, Eldon Nazarene Church members make masses of apple pies. This year's proceeds from sales of the pies, bought by members of the community, will help feed, clothe, and provide schooling for more than 40 orphans in Uganda at the Hope Orphanage.

Eldon Nazarene Church also recently celebrated 100 years of ministry to the Lake area. The pie fundraiser began when Pastor Jerry Frye wished to extend the church's charitable giving to programs further. A sister church in Cape Girardeau had refined a pie-making fundraiser—and recipe—so Frye obtained the recipe and church members jumped in.

Bandera peru
Caption
