Panama church encourages missions giving through yearlong emphasis

by | 07 Sep 2018

The Nazarene Missions International team at El Progreso Church of the Nazarene challenged the congregation to raise $1,000 for Nazarene missions between October 2017 and August 2018.

Leaders encouraged each Sunday School group to give toward the goal throughout the year and hosted a “missions party” on the final day of the initiative to raise the remaining funds.

Church members decorated the building with the colors and symbols of each country on the Mesoamerica Region and prepared traditional dishes.

After each group brought their offering forward, the attendees celebrated exceeding the $1,000 goal.

“What a blessed time,” said Ana María Crocker, NMI regional coordinator. “A person received Jesus as his personal savior [at the party], and many more came to the altar to pray for their health. [The World Evangelism Fund] continues supporting the missionary work of the Church of the Nazarene because local churches are faithful in giving, by grace, for that which they have received by grace.”

The Cameroon flag is a vertical tricolor of green, red and yellow, defaced with a five-pointed star in its center. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as "the star of unity." The yellow stands for the sun and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
